Bellevue will be home to a first-of-its-kind attraction from the iconic toy company Mattel before the end of 2027, according to an Oct. 1 announcement from the company.

The company announced plans to open the first Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterpark in the Omaha suburb.

“Designed as a year-round, multi-brand destination, the approximately 100,000-square-foot waterpark will bring Barbie, Hot Wheels, Fisher-Price, UNO and more Mattel brands together through attractions, play, food and shared experiences,” read a release from the brand.

While one rendering of the Barbie activity pool and FlowRider surf simulator shows a scene that looks to be straight out of the 2023 film Barbie, another depicts a Hot Wheels-themed waterslide attraction that stirs memories of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Who hasn’t wanted to take a ride on those tracks they spent so long constructing in their homes?

Bellevue’s Good Life District will be home to the first Mattel Wonder park. Other confirmed locations for the first phase of parks include Orlando, Florida; Bradley, Illinois; and Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

“Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterparks are about bringing great experiences to where our fans actually live,” said Natalia Premovic, chief consumer products and experiences officer with Mattel. “We see a real opportunity to take the kind of immersive entertainment traditionally concentrated in major markets and bring it to more communities in a scalable, year-round format.

“Bellevue becoming our first Waterpark to open is an important step in that strategy and a significant chance to show what happens when you bring so many of our brands together in one place,” Premovic continued.

Aside from the Barbie pool and Hot Wheels slide tower (called “Challenge Accepted”), the park will include a lazy river inspired by Mattel games like UNO, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, and Magic 8 Ball; a Fisher-Price water play structure; and themed food and beverage offerings, according to the release.

“Bellevue is proud to be home to the first Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterpark, bringing a one-of-a-kind location to our community and welcoming visitors from across the region,” said Bellevue Mayor Rusty Hike. “This project represents an important investment in Bellevue’s future, and we’re excited to work with Mattel and American Resort Management to create a place where people can experience all our community has to offer.”
