‘Astounding’: Nebraska State Senator reacts to Trump’s 300,000-ton beef import deal

During a press conference on Thursday, Sept. 10, Nebraska State Senator Margo Juarez criticized the Trump administration’s beef import plan, arguing officials should focus on supporting American farmers instead. Sen. Juarez, who represents District 5 in south Omaha, questioned whether imported beef would be clearly labeled for origin, quality and safety. On Aug. 21, the Trump administration announced a deal to temporarily allow 300,000 metric tons of ground beef into the US without triggering higher tariffs, with the imported beef sold below current market rates. ⁣“We have turned our back on them if we’re going to be allowing a product of this nature,” Juarez said.
