After newly leaked audio from last year showed Nebraska US Senate candidate Dan Osborn using crude language to describe support for President Donald Trump in rural communities like Red Cloud, the registered Independent held a townhall there on Thursday, Oct. 1.
“Billy Bob in f—king Red Cloud, Nebraska, who lives next to the f—king Trump store as you pull into town and is waving the flag, all he knows is that he’s on the winning team,” Osborn said in the the leaked audio. “And that’s all they care about, because their lives probably suck so f—king bad.”
Osborn opened the forum by reading an email he received from a Red Cloud resident: “ I was disappointed and frankly offended by your recent comments invoking Red Cloud and its residents.. Red Cloud is far more interesting, complicated, and consequential than the characterization suggested by [your] remarks.”
“I do regret those words, and for that, I apologize to the people of Red Cloud,” Osborn told the crowd. “They should have never been said. I don’t feel that way.”
