Former Nebraska Appropriations Committee Chair John Stinner warned about the state’s budget decisions during a Feb. 4 appearance on The Dan Parsons Show, telling Parsons, “You don’t run a business this way.” More than seven months later, Stinner is still raising similar concerns. In a Sept. 19 Nebraska Examiner commentary, he blamed Nebraska’s fiscal problems on what he described as a series of poor budgeting decisions rather than a recession, criticizing the state’s use of transfers, tax cuts and reserves under Gov. Jim Pillen.
