The Cass County Board of Commissioners moved Tuesday, Sept. 22, to prohibit hyperscale data centers—facilities over 25MW or 100,000 square feet. The board will vote on the proposed regulations for the county on Oct. 6. During public comment, Jayden Speed, a resident of Nehawka and former candidate for Legislature in District 2, accused the Omaha-based private energy company Tenaska of misleading farmers when optioning land for a proposed data center project in the area. “Stop going to our farmers and optioning land without coming to this board,” said Speed, directed at Tenaska officials.
