Lynne Walz, a Democratic candidate for Nebraska governor, announced her running mate Tuesday at a farm near Elkhorn. Ben Steffen, a farmer from Humboldt, has worked in a variety of agricultural roles over the years and currently serves as board chairman of the Nebraska Rural Radio Association. Steffen said Nebraska’s executive branch needs a “thoughtful and compassionate” leader, pointing to Walz, and criticized her opponent, incumbent Republican Jim Pillen.
