Sen. Pete Ricketts breaks with Trump over taxpayer-funded campaign ads

Nebraska Sen. Pete Ricketts broke with President Donald Trump over the use of taxpayer dollars for campaign-style advertising, saying it “would not be appropriate” to use federal money for campaign ads. CNN’s Dana Bash pressed Ricketts about a Trump administration ad she said is nearly identical to a video from Trump’s 2024 campaign, but this time paid for by the federal government. Ricketts said he hadn’t seen the specific ad, but said campaign and government spending should be kept separate, pointing to ethics rules designed to draw that line.
