‘They’re disgusted’: Nebraska Legislature candidate on ballot measure interference

Cindy Maxwell-Ostdiek, a candidate for Nebraska Legislative District 4, spoke with Courier Nebraska about the pattern of voter-approved ballot measures facing interference in the state’s one-house legislative body. Maxwell-Ostdiek, a registered nonpartisan who’s helped collect signatures for several meddled-with measures, said she frequently hears from voters who are “very frustrated and actually disgusted at what has happened with their voice and their vote.” “ If Nebraskans vote for something that is passed on the ballot, I will respect their wishes,” she said. “ Even if I disagree, I will respect my neighbors’ votes.” Legislative District 4 is located in west-central Douglas County, covering parts of Omaha. Maxwell-Ostdiek is hoping to unseat incumbent State Sen. Brad von Gillern, a registered Republican, on Nov. 3.
