Dan Osborn, Independent candidate for US Senate in Nebraska, criticized the Stop Insider Trading Act for not going far enough during a town hall stop in Lincoln on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Osborn was joined by Nico Agosta of the Political Integrity Project, a non-partisan political finance tracking platform for the event. Agosta noted that the bill, which passed the US House but died in the Senate, doesn’t prevent members of Congress from selling or holding stocks, but imposes a 10% fine on the profit you made from a trade. Osborn said the legal consequences for insider trading should be more harsh. “You break the law, you go to jail,” he said. The former union leader from Omaha is locked into a heated race against incumbent Republican US Sen. Pete Ricketts. The general election is Nov. 3.
