Getting out and mingling with the people who live around you is one of the keys to a happy life. You never know who might change your life or the amazing stories you’ll hear. Of course, you can do this in many ways, from joining a local book club to volunteering at an organization whose mission you really care about, but one way to have extra fun while meeting your friendly neighborhood patrons is to visit dive bars.
Nebraska has no shortage of dive bars, but what do we really mean by that? For this list, we searched high and low for hometown bars with dedicated local crowds, old-school decor, and generally affordable prices. When narrowing down the 14 bars on this list, we also considered Google ratings so we only send you to places locals genuinely love. With that said, here are some of the best dive bars in Nebraska, from Lincoln and Omaha to Monowi and Fremont.
1. Monowi Tavern
Address: 9 Broad St, Monowi, NE 68746
Hours: Tuesday-Sunday: 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
We’re starting this list with one of the most unique dive bars in Nebraska—no, in the U.S. Monowi is famous for having a single resident: Elsie Eiler, a woman in her 90s. Eiler is the default mayor of the village, and she can be seen mingling with visitors at Monowi Tavern, where she cooks hot burgers, crispy chicken, scrumptious french fries, and more for guests.
Nebraska locals from across the state come to experience her no-frills tavern, so you’ll meet plenty of great folks here. The tavern has a 4.9-star Google rating, with reviewers noting that Eiler is friendly and the cold beer stays flowing.
2. Jerry’s Bar
Address: 6301 Military Ave, Omaha, NE 68104
Hours: Monday-Sunday: 9 a.m.-2 a.m.
We can’t talk about the best local bars in Omaha without mentioning Jerry’s Bar. Regulars make up a large portion of the Jerry’s clientele, and the drinks are reasonably priced, with specials to boot. For instance, on Thursdays, you might find $3 domestic taps, as seen in a recent Facebook post. Locals praise the wide selection of international drinks with a strong focus on German and Czech beer (and Oktoberfest celebrations, of course). On Google, Jerry’s Bar has a 4.6-star rating, with one visitor writing, “My favorite bar in Omaha. Friendly bartenders, cheap drinks, and there’s always something going on.”
3. Rudy’s Bar
Address: 8503 Maple St, Omaha, NE 68134
Hours: Monday-Sunday: 6 a.m.-2 a.m.
You know you’re in for one of the best dive bars in Nebraska when it’s named after someone. Like Jerry’s, Rudy’s Bar is one of Omaha’s friendliest hangout spots, but what makes it really unique is its Christmas decor, which stays up all year long. There’s no better place to be merry, whether it’s December or July. It’s no wonder that Rudy’s Bar has a 4.8-star Google rating. “Great little dive bar.. Bartenders are on their game and the drinks are proper. The Christmas atmosphere is … unique,” wrote one visitor, who added that the locals were friendly to them.
4. Brokedown Palace
Address: 8805 Maple St, Omaha, NE, 68134
Hours: Monday-Sunday: 11 a.m.-2 a.m.
Brokedown Palace is anything but dilapidated. This dive bar was founded by two childhood friends who both grew up to become bartenders, and it’s become a community staple since its doors opened. Here, you can find live music, good drink deals (like 25% off drinks for women on Ladies’ Nights), and charming camaraderie. Plus, Brokedown Palace has a patio if that’s your vibe. “Found our new go to. The bartenders are fantastic,” one local wrote on Google, where Brokedown Palace has a 4.5-star rating.
5. Luke’s Corner
Address: 6002 S 42nd St, Omaha, NE 68107
Hours: Monday-Tuesday: 3 p.m.-2 a.m.; Wednesday-Friday: 12 p.m.-2 a.m.; Saturday-Sunday: 2 p.m.-2 a.m.
Another of the best dive bars in Nebraska named after someone, Luke’s Corner is a 4.9-star-rated establishment with glowing reviews and even better vibes. Luke’s is known for its friendly owner, nice staff, and even fun events, like a costume contest for Halloween. “Great music and atmosphere. The owner is amazing and so down to earth, friendly and fun. … The friendliest bar I’ve been to ever,” one guest shared in a Google review. Other reviewers appreciate how affordable the drinks are, and, really, who can beat that?

6. The Old Pub
Address: 420 S 11th St, Lincoln, NE 68508
Hours: Monday-Sunday: 12 p.m.-2 a.m.
The Old Pub might have “old” in its name, but that’s certainly not the vibe you’ll get when you walk inside. There’s classic dive-bar decor, but the building is well maintained. It’s also an excellent bar to watch Huskers games, if that’s something you’re interested in, especially because of its cheap beer prices.
“A great, low key bar where locals gather,” one regular noted, while another exclaimed, “I have visited the place more frequently in the past couple of months and want [to] commend the owner/bar staff, again- on their kindness towards people.” It would seem The Old Pub’s 4.6-star rating is well-earned!
7. Emmet’s Tavern
Address: 2514 Leavenworth St, Omaha, NE 68105
Hours: Monday-Friday: 2 p.m.-2 a.m.; Saturday-Sunday: 12 p.m.-2 a.m.
Boasting 4.7 stars on Google, Emmet’s Tavern in Omaha is a beloved local dive where regulars gather to watch Huskers games, enjoy sweet drink prices, and revel in the familiar faces they’ve come to know over the years. On some nights, you can even catch comedy shows, bingo, and more. Mark McClellan bought the place in 2019 and named it after the town of Emmet, Nebraska, where his grandfather operated a bar and barbershop. One pleased reviewer described Emmet’s as a “classic dive bar,” adding that it has “cheap beer and friendly service.”
8. Dugout Bar
Address: 239 E 6th St, Fremont, NE 68025
Hours: Tuesday-Saturday: 12 p.m.-1 a.m.
Described in its Facebook bio as “a cozy place to meet and chat,” Dugout Bar is one of those dive bars in Nebraska that you find one night when you’re in need of a good time, and you continue to return time after time. The affordable drinks, the friendly patrons and staff, and the low-key ambiance make this bar feel safe, like home. You shouldn’t expect any loud raucousness here, which is precisely why Dugout Bar has 4.5 stars on Google. “For your hole in the wall kind of bar… this is a GREAT find,” one visitor said after visiting.

9. DC’s Waterhole
Address: 441 Main St, Plattsmouth, NE 68048
Hours: Monday-Friday: 10 a.m.-1 a.m.; Saturday: 7 a.m.-1 a.m.; Sunday: 7 a.m.-9 p.m.
DC’s Waterhole is beloved by Plattsmouth locals because it’s grown alongside them. Established in 1981, the 4.6-star DC’s Waterhole is in its 45th year of business, and it has remained family-owned and operated for all these years. In fact, locals love everyone who works at this bar, with many being mentioned by name in reviews. “Best small town bar ever!! Always treated like family here, even when I stopped drinking. I love these folks!!” one reviewer shared. How beautiful is that?
10. Joe’s Duck Inn
Address: 13336 Millard Ave #5, Omaha, NE 68137
Hours: Monday-Saturday: 8 a.m.-2 a.m.; Sunday: 12 p.m.-2 a.m.
Boasting 4.4 stars from Omaha locals and tourists alike, Joe’s Duck Inn is larger in size and personality than you might expect from the outside. That charm only grows when you realize that the bar churns out delectable burgers, which, of course, pair perfectly with ice-cold beer. “I am admittedly a burger and wing snob. Let me tell you without a shadow of a doubt, this is the best burger in Omaha as of 2026,” one diner commented in their review. Note that Joe’s Duck Inn is a cash-only dive bar, but it has an on-site ATM to save you an extra stop.
11. JDubs Hangout
Address: 15408 S 2nd St, Bennington, NE 68007
Hours: Monday: 2 p.m.-11 p.m.; Tuesday-Thursday: 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; Friday-Saturday: 11 a.m.-2 a.m.; Sunday: 12 p.m.-11 p.m.
With 4.7 stars, Bennington’s JDubs Hangout may just be one of the best dive bars in Nebraska. Its already affordable prices are lowered further with daily deals, including $2 off burgers every Wednesday and $1 off margaritas every Tuesday. Some reviewers have mentioned the bar being noisy, but they mostly have a great time here. “My favorite place to hang out and have a drink. … It’s a laid back, small town bar, everyone is very friendly and the food is awesome,” one patron wrote.

If you visit this bar, you may even encounter a lively round of bingo, among other events.
13. The Ponderosa Lounge
Address: 124 Prospector Dr, Ogallala, NE 69153
Hours: Monday: 2 p.m.-1 a.m.; Tuesday-Sunday: 11 a.m.-1 a.m.
Looking for karaoke in Ogallala? Locals swear by The Ponderosa Lounge for a good time, with live music on some extra-fun evenings. These good times have culminated in a 4.5-star Google rating for the lounge, with reviewers praising its wings and affordable drink prices. One visitor even went so far as to call The Ponderosa Lounge “one of Ogallala’s best gathering spots.” It’s no wonder why, either. In addition to the staff being incredibly friendly, the lounge has parking space for truckers, who pass through the area en masse.
14. Max’s Bar
Address: 250 Cedar St, Waco, NE 68460
Hours: Monday-Friday: 4 p.m.-2 a.m.; Saturday-Sunday: 2 p.m.-2 a.m.
If you tried to picture stereotypical dive bars in Nebraska, you’d likely envision Max’s Bar—whether you realized it or not. And that’s not a bad thing. Max’s Bar is homey and features the classic decor that we all associate with dive bars, including giant alcohol brand logos and even mounted animal heads. It also has pool and other games for patrons to enjoy along with their drinks and food. “A real throwback to the good feel of a neighborhood bar. I highly recommend it to anyone driving within 15 miles of there …” one reviewer shared on Google. Max’s Bar has a 4.7-star rating, so this reviewer certainly isn’t alone in this sentiment.
