On Nov. 3, 2026, hundreds of thousands of Nebraskans will hit the polls to elect office holders in over 200 races.
But sometimes it’s more convenient to cast your ballot before Election Day. This guide is designed to provide you with all the information you need about early voting in Nebraska in 2026.
In Nebraska, registered voters can cast their ballot early in-person or by mail. Nebraska is a “no-excuse” state, meaning any registered voter can request an early-voting ballot, no explanation required.

How do I request an early vote ballot?
To receive an early vote ballot, you’ll need to make a formal request to vote early with your local election officials. You can print an early voting application at home.
Once you complete the form, you can mail, fax, scan, or photograph your application and email it to your county election office.
County election offices in Nebraska are currently accepting early-voting applications for the Nov. 3 general election. State law mandates that election offices cannot accept early vote ballots more than 120 days prior to a given election.
Applications must be received by your county election office by 6 p.m. on Oct. 23, 2026 in order to vote in the 2026 general election.
When do I receive my early vote ballot?
If you’ve properly requested an early vote ballot for the Nov. 3 general election, it will be mailed to you around Sept. 29, 2026.
State law mandates that early vote ballots are not sent out until at least 35 days before a primary or general election and 15 days prior to all other elections.
Ballots received via mail will be accompanied by instructions on how to cast your vote and use the return envelope. Your ballot must be received in the given return envelope. The envelope must be sealed and signed by the voter and, if assistance was provided, by the individual who did so.
When do I need to turn in my early vote ballot?
All early vote ballots must arrive by the close of polls on general election day. Polls close on Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. Central Time (or 7 p.m. Mountain Time).
Nebraska does not accept any ballots turned in late. Even if your ballot envelope is postmarked on or before Election Day, it will not be accepted if it is received after polls close on Election Day.
Early vote ballots can be delivered to your county election office in a variety of ways:
- Via postal service
- In-person to your county clerk/election commissioner
- Placed in a secure drop box location (see locations here)
- Via another person (an “agent”)
How do I know my ballot was delivered?
You can track the status of your ballot, including when your ballot was sent and returned, online at votercheck.necvr.ne.gov.
IN-PERSON
Registered voters in Nebraska can also vote early in-person at your county election office.
The first day you can cast your ballot early and in-person is Oct. 5, 2026. State law mandates that no in-person ballots may be cast earlier than 30 days prior to a primary or general election and 15 days for all other elections.
The day before the election is the last day to vote early in person.
Office hours for different county clerks/election commissioners vary, but generally operate during weekday business hours. Check with your local office before going in person.
If you lose or damage your ballot, or do not receive your early ballot by Election Day, you can still cast a provisional ballot at your polling place. Your provisional ballot will be counted once it is confirmed that no other ballots have been cast in your name.
