Independent U.S. Senate candidate Dan Osborn argued that Sen. Pete Ricketts’ calls to get tougher on China hold little merit if Nebraska producers still lack more ways to compete with the country’s dominant meatpackers. Speaking during his 93-county tour, Osborn pointed to Ricketts’ record as governor and called for passage of the PRIME Act, legislation aimed at expanding opportunities for smaller, independent meat processors to sell directly to consumers. Osborn has made competition in the meatpacking industry a central piece of his rural policy platform as he campaigns against Ricketts for Nebraska’s U.S. Senate seat.
