Lancaster County Sheriffs investigating fraudulent election petitions with GOP ties

Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin announced Friday, Aug. 7, an investigation into allegations of fraudulent signatures submitted to the Lancaster County Election Commission.

The three petitions, brought by the group Good Government Lincoln, sought to restructure Lincoln’s city government.

The effort is being led by former GOP state Sen. Tony Fulton, who served as tax commissioner under former Gov. Pete Ricketts. The campaign is also working with Axiom Strategies, a Republican consulting firm that has a history of working with GOP politicians in Nebraska, including current Gov. Jim Pillen, Ricketts and Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers.

Houchin said LSO is working with multiple law enforcement and prosecutorial partners, including the Lancaster County Attorney’s Office, the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service. This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
