Legislative candidate questions Gov. Pillen’s denial of Nebraska’s budget crisis

Christy Knorr, candidate for Nebraska Legislative District 12, offered her reaction to Gov. Jim Pillen’s past comments saying the state doesn’t have a budget crisis. Knorr, a hospice nurse running against incumbent Sen. Merv Riepe for the Ralston-based seat, told Courier Nebraska that the Governor’s evaluation seems unlikely in light of his July memo calling for state agencies to cut spending by 5% and freeze hiring for most positions. “It’s going to be a hard legislative session, because we really have to look at those things,” Knorr said. “We also have to make sure that we are protecting the folks that rely on us the most, and the people that need us the most.” The general election is Nov. 3.
