Nebraska AG Mike Hilgers is suing the City of Lincoln over its new minimum wage ordinance, calling it unconstitutional.
The state currently caps minimum wage growth at 1.75% and sets a $13.50 youth minimum wage. Lincoln’s local ordinance challenges that by establishing a different growth rate and bumping the youth wage up to $15 an hour.
Hilgers argues Lincoln can’t act as a “super-legislature” to overwrite statewide laws, stating: “They can’t, but are trying anyway.”
