Osborn says one independent senator could have stopped $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts

Independent U.S. Senate candidate Dan Osborn said during Nebraska’s Senate debate that he would have opposed the GOP’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” in its final form, pointing to its Medicaid provisions and arguing that an independent senator could have used a closely divided Senate as leverage to demand changes. Osborn said that if he had defeated Sen. Deb Fischer in 2024, he could have used that leverage to negotiate with both parties and prevent the legislation from cutting roughly $1 trillion in federal Medicaid spending.
